This week, The FEW created a survey where we gathered fellow students opinions on current educational policy. Here is a link to the responses broken down and graphs to see it visually.
We had six questions, they were:
"Has your time at Miami prepared you on educational policies?"
"Do you feel updated and informed on educational policies?"
"Do you agree with the recently passed House Bill 99 which allows teachers to carry firearms with less than 24 hours of training?"
"Do you agree with Ohio's Proposed House Bill 616, essentially the equivalent of Florida's "Don't Say Gay" Bill?"
"How confident do you feel about partaking in activism in educational policies?"
"Do you feel as though teachers are properly represented in educational policies?"
Essentially, the surveyees answered these on a scale of 1-5, from strongly disagree to agree, or no to yes. Looking at the responses, they are what I would typically expect from mostly education students here at Miami University, which may be a way where we fall short. In the future, we could try to expand our audience and get results from a larger group, making this more varied.
Overall, it seems as if the group who answered is not happy with where educational policy is going, and that seems to correlate fairly with the idea that teachers are not represented enough when making decisions regarding education, where the most common answer was a 2, meaning they don't think they are.
This tells us at The FEW that what we are striving for, modernizing education and becoming more critical, is something that most people want. Now, making the change, that is what we have to do next.
